Eberhardt Press

Eberhardt Press is named for Isabelle Eberhardt, the great anarchist writer and adventurer who was swept away by a flash flood in Algeria at age 27, more than a hundred years ago. But her writings have lived on long after her passing. She lived freely and fully, writing of her experiences in the Muslim world in a voice of clarity, depth and beauty. Her life and her work are an inspiration for those who desire to embrace the experiences of life to the fullest, and who refuse to be mired in the repressive constraints of conventional society.
Eberhardt Press, established in 2004, is dedicated to bringing anarchist and anti-authoritarian voices to print. We publish original titles as well as classic revolutionary texts that are out of print and in danger of fading from memory. By operating a small-scale offset printing and bindery facility, we can produce publications at a fraction of the cost of paying a commercial printer. Therefore we are able to offer our hand-crafted books and pamphlets less expensively to the public. Whenever an Eberhardt Press title goes out of print, high-resolution PDF files of the publication are placed in the Reading Room for continued accessibility. You can even download PDFs with printer's spreads for printing your own editions.
Eberhardt Press subsidizes its publishing operations by providing offset printing and bindery services to the local community. Since its founding, Eberhardt Press has printed more than a quarter million zines, books, notebooks, postcards, posters, and other projects for independent publishers, artists and activist groups in Portland and throughout the country.
