Written when Daniel McGowen had been in the Marion, Illinois CMU ("Communication Management Unit" -- classic government speak for isolation units) for nine months, this is a valuable first hand account of what political prisoners can expect in today's US prisons. A very valuable piece of reporting for anyone who risks arrest, or hangs out with people who risk arrest, or knows anyone who risks arrest, or has a name that sounds like it might belong to someone who would risk arrest... or for people who just want to know what prison is like without going there themselves.
Highly recommended for the purposes of realistic assessment. Being aware means being better prepared.
Affinity groups would be well advised to read this and the Harold Thompson pamphlet on dealing with cops.
