Rethinking Women and Cyberculture

While critiques and questions about gender and cyberspace have been around since before most people knew what cyberspace was (see, for one way out example, Tanith Lee's science fiction stories Don't Bite the Sun & Drinking Sapphire Wine), there are no answers. It does seem apparent that the malleability of representation online has played some part in the current tendency to see representation in general as a fluid, rather than a solid.
Reload takes on the question of gender and tech culture, including the polarity of the claims for how e-culture addresses gender (both the stereotypes and the possible intriguing potential).

From the publisher:
The book brings together women's cyberfiction--fiction that explores the relationship between people and virtual technologies--and feminist theoretical and critical investigations of gender and technoculture. From a variety of viewpoints, the writers consider the effects of rapid and profound technological change on culture, in particular both the revolutionary and reactionary effects of cyberculture on women's lives. They also explore the feminist implications of the cyborg, a human-machine hybrid. The writers challenge the conceptual and institutional rifts between high and low culture, which are embedded in the texts and artifacts of cyberculture.
