today mostly worked on anarchist library

since we tabled (and since i realized that a bunch of things hadn’t been put on to the site yet) there are lots of things to be re-boxed. although maybe the tabling stuff will stay separate until someone tables again. i have hope that this reboxing is the kind of soothing mindless work that someone will find perfect for a mellow volunteer shift.
i’m thinking the starter packets will be geographical: eastern europe, spain, italy, PNW (? or something), eastern US, maybe eventually japan; and philosophical, the sits, post marxist, insurrectionist, anti-state commie, classical anarchist, new wave anarchist, green anarchist; and then single issue - sex/relationships, women, environment, activism, organization, race, etc.
even though we have pamphlets for all these topics, they’re not necessarily overviews, or suited for people with no prior information, so part of the fun will be creating the pamphlets that we are lacking (and can’t find elsewhere).
so many things to do…
today i updated the new releases page (that hadn’t been touched all year), and added some Baby Elephant Editions pamphlets, and added BEE as a publisher…
also updated the titles list (although really i’m the only one that uses it, so whatever).
still to do: i’m most excited about the starter packets that we’re going to create - i think against the logic of submission has pieces that will work in a sexuality starter kit, which means that we have three things for it so that will work (i think a minimum of three titles per kit is good).
hoping to have a good review module for zen cart soon - i’ve been encouraging people to write reviews and i want to feature some of them. i just realized today that people have to give all their information to have an lbc account, and that seems daunting/unattractive. so i’m hoping that can change too.
The migration to the new software appears to have gone (surprisingly) smoothly. We started receiving orders with the new system before we even announced it. Things working is good.
We have also starting carrying a couple of things that we are happy about. The new Abolishing Borders from Below, the new “provo” book (from Autonomedia), the book from the Surveillance Camera Players, and these sweet buttons from IEF all make me happy.
Mail-order is exhausting. Don’t try this at home.
Just four months after the launch of Little Black Cart 1.0 we are happy to announce the launch of Little Black Cart 2.0!
Little Black Cart is a great way to find hard-to-find anarchist (and nearly anarchist) material. We make interesting, provocative, and useful ideas easier to find for non-anarchists and anarchists alike, making them easily available so that they can find broader appeal. These products have exposed us to the idea that a different way of being is imaginable, is possible, and we think that possibility is worth sharing with everyone.
In four months we have nearly doubled our number of anti-authoritarian publishers. We support these publishers by providing an easy-to-use way for people to access their products. We believe that our publishers all offer important contributions to understanding and challenging the existing order.
Technical problems have encouraged us to find a new and better software solution for the website. LBC 2.0 represents the activation of this new backend.
This particularly affects our international visitors since, up till now, they been unable to use Little Black Cart. Additionally LBC can now do some basic things that were missing before, gift certificates and system stability first among them. We can now accept Paypal (yuck) through the site itself. The site is also now cleaner and works better.
The last four months have been very exciting for Little Black Cart. We launched the site and have successfully tabled anarchist material from Victoria to Baltimore and from Vermont to Berkeley. We look forward to the next four months of bringing the best of anarchist literature to a town near you.
